The theme for this year’s Africa Day was under the African Union’s 2015 theme, “Women Empowerment and Development towards Africa’s Agenda 2063”.

Every year, the organizing African Embassies pay meticulous attention to their choice of venue, entertainment, and theme as to honor the African Union’s aspirations. Africa Day is an opportunity for the African Embassies to organize an evening that seeks to both showcase and celebrate the positive developments and aspirations of the African continent and highlight the African spirit.

H.E. Ms. Isabella Lövin, the Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation was the Guest of Honor during this year’s celebration. Ms. Lövin delivered the keynote speech. The celebration’s program included an interesting variety of entertainment and content with diverse music artists from East, West, South and North Africa.

Alongside speeches and music, the evening exhibited a slideshow commemorating influential and inspiring women that have contributed to the promotion and support of female empowerment in the African continent. There were also fashion shows that displayed modern African clothing by professional designers, Jewelry designers and the diverse colors and patterns of African traditional clothing.

The evening also hosted a dinner buffet that displayed a diverse array of gourmet dishes covering the African continent. At the end of the evening’s program, there was an East African band (Dekula Band) that got the audience on their feet, concluding the program on a positive musical note. We serve you with the beautiful pictures taken during the event.
