Germany to monitor Saudi embassy and Consulate
Germany to monitor the Saudi Arabia embassy in Berlin as part of a major crackdown in citizens traveling to the Middle East nation
Jamal Khashoggi’s shocking murder has triggered demands for Germany to monitor the Saudi Arabia embassy in Berlin as part of a major crackdown in citizens traveling to the Middle East nation.
Christian Democratic Union foreign policy minister Elmar Brok called on tougher checks of not only the embassy but also members of the Saudi Arabia consulate in the wake of the horrific death of Mr Khashoggi. Mr Brok told reporters
“The news about the murder of Khashoggi is more than alarming.
“We should therefore legally check whether video surveillance of the embassy and the Saudi consulates in Germany is possible, to know what is happening there in case of emergency.”
Mr Brok’s words come after Siemens boss Joe Kaeser batted off mass criticism after refusing to travel to Saudi Arabia for an investment conference today, following in the footsteps of a flurry of other company bosses and politicians who have also cancelled flights to the nation.
