"On 11 January 2019, the post of Ambassador-at-Large for the Diaspora at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was assumed by Aivars Groza," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

Aivars Groza began working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994. He was later appointed as adviser to the Prime Minister (in 1995–1997 and 1999–2000).

He has served as Counsellor at the Latvian Embassy in Germany (1997–1999) and from 2000 to 2005, he was posted as non-resident Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg, from 2005 to 2010 – as Ambassador to Austria and non-resident Ambassador to Liechtenstein, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Hungary, and from 2010 to 2014 – as Consul General in Saint Petersburg.

Prior to taking office as Ambassador-at-Large for the Diaspora, Aivars Groza was the Ambassador of Latvia to India (2014–2018).

You can find out more about Latvia's diaspora policy at this section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website. The previous Ambassador-at-Large for diaspora matters was Atis Sjanīts.
